Kniphofia collection (Pokers)
||Kniphofia 'Little Maid'|
A very small poker with fine grass-like foliage to about 20cm. Masses of soft yellow-apricot coloured torches are produced from early spring until the middle of summer.
Height 40cm Width 30cm
A real red-hot-poker. This mid-to-late summer flowering variety has a solid block of red as its torch. Unlike most of the coloured pokers, this one does not have any yellow around the skirt of the flower spike. It is a great spot of bright colour.
Height 70cm Width 60cm
||Kniphofia 'Dwarf Uvaria'|
A smaller form of the good-old-fashioned red-hot poker. Strappy grass-like foliage mounds grow to about 50cm and bright orange-red flower spikes emerge from mid-spring to mid-summer.
Height 70cm Width 40cm
||Kniphofia 'James Nottle'|
A prolific flowering variety with egg-yolk coloured torches. Repeat flowers from late winter to early summer. Dead-heading will prolong the display & keeps this plant looking good. Height 80cm Width 60cm
||Kniphofia 'Lime Glow'|
A good repeat flowering variety with soft lime coloured flower torches throughout the year. Like all the pokers, it does this plant good to be cut to the ground once a year to remove old, untidy leaves.
Height 100cm Width 80cm
||Kniphofia 'Percy's Pride'|
Another lime-coloured poker, but this variety has a longer torch on a shorter stem to 'Lime Glow'. Completely tough and a great survivor in tough conditions.
Height 70cm Width 60cm.
||Kniphofia 'Shining Sceptre'|
A smaller & more compact poker with bright apricot-orange coloured torches. The flowers begin early spring and are finished by the beginning of summer.
Height 70cm Width 50cm
||Kniphofia 'Yellow Hammer'|
This is a good yellow coloured poker which will brighten your garden with colour from late winter through until early summer. The buds emerge from the foliage mounds a deep lime-green, but become clear yellow as they open.
Height 100cm Width 70cm
||Kniphofia 'Nobbies Sunrise'|
A taller upright form with dark burnt-orange coloured torches on a clump of slender evergreen foliage. The flower spikes emerge in late spring and continue throughout summer. Regular dead heading will keep this plant flowering for long periods.
Height 120cm Width 70cm
||Kniphofia praecox (old fashioned red-hot poker)|
This is the image most people imagine when they think of red-hot pokers. This old plant is a tough survivor ! Grow anywhere, long-suffering and often neglected, it will continue to flower year after year. Tall flower spikes emerge all summer.
Height 120cm Width 80cm
||Kniphofia 'Winter Cheer'|
When little else is in flower, this mid-winter flowering variety will brighten up the dullest cold winter garden. Lush dark-green foliage clumps develop into sizeable mounds. Strong upright flower spikes emerge and produce rich orange-red flowers. No amount of wind will stop the flowering display.
